Announcement

We warmly welcome 5 new Signatories!

As of July and August 2024, we warmly welcome 5 new ZDHC Signatories to the ZDHC Committed Community! We’ve asked each of them to tell us a little bit about their organization, and why they are joining ZDHC.

We are thrilled to announce that LAFER S.P.A. is the first company to join the newly established ZDHC Signatory Textile Machinery Manufacture category, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to sustainable textile production.

ZDHC Signatory Textile Machinery Manufacturer

LAFER S.P.A. is today the leading company worldwide for the production of textile finishing machines and environmentally friendly solutions for fabric scouring. Lafer is one of the few companies that invests heavily in finding environmentally friendly solutions to reduce the impact on the environment in the textile fabric process.

A perfect example of this is the Dissolva waterless scouring machine that is today the by far most environmentally friendly solution for scouring.

As a machine manufacturer LAFER S.P.A. is committed to reducing the environmental impact in the Textile Finishing Industry. LAFER S.P.A. develops circular and sustainable processes together with low-carbon technologies that promote the reduction of emissions, waste and water usage. Many of their plants are based on waterless technologies or processes that use less water compared to the state of art. Regarding their company, LAFER S.P.A. actively encourage waste reduction, reuse and recycling across their firm’s network and partners. In addition, LAFER S.P.A. is actively seeking to reduce their carbon footprint emissions through renewable energy projects and improved logistics.

Joining ZDHC will support their strategy as  LAFER S.P.A.  believes that it is also essential that everyone starts to understand that by using the right machinery a much more environmentally friendly textile production process can be achieved.

“We want to join ZDHC, because we believe that the only way to achieve the most environmentally friendly textile production possible is by using the right chemicals, the right machines and the right processes.
Until now the textile machinery manufacturers have not been part of ZDHC, but to make ZDHC more complete it is essential that also the companies producing environmentally friendly machinery and processes become part of ZDHC.”

– Carl Bengelsdorff, Director of Sales

We are pleased to announce and warmly welcome the following two companies that have successfully transitioned from being Signatory Friends of ZDHC Brands to ZDHC Signatory Brands, reflecting their continued commitment to sustainable practices and responsible chemical management in the industry.

As ZDHC Signatory Brand

Mustang stands for freedom - for independence and self-determination. This mission statement is firmly anchored in their history and the origin of their brand. Many years ago, in 1932 Luise Hermann founded the L. Hermann Kleiderfabrik in a small factory in Künzelsau, Germany. Today this little family business, now known as Mustang, has grown into one of the leading denim specialists in Europe with over 500 employees worldwide and 135 retail stores and outlets worldwide.

Mustang stands for responsible corporate management. Sustainability should be a matter of course in everything they do. This is why Mustang established the CR Board (Corporate Responsible Board) in 2019, which defines their sustainability strategy and is responsible for its implementation. The Board is chaired by their CEO. The entire Executive Board and employees from all areas of the company are part of the board. It is responsible for developing and implementing their sustainability strategy. Together Mustang is working towards clear goals that are based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Mustang wants all employees throughout their value chain to feel safe and aim to keep their end product as environmentally friendly as possible. To do this, Mustang expects their suppliers to comply with clear standards. The basis for this is the "Restricted Substances List" (RSL), which applies to the finished garment. However, in order to achieve real environmental protection in production facilities, Mustang has introduced the ZDHC MRSL which starts one step earlier in the factory and includes chemical substances whose intended use in the manufacture of apparel and footwear materials and trims is limited or prohibited to protect workers, consumers and the environment. The tools provided by ZDHC allow for step-by-step compliance with the MRSL via effluent testing and disclosed chemical inventories.

“Being promoted to a ZDHC signatory brand recognizes our first achievements regarding a more environmentally compatible and safer textile business.
It confirms our journey towards a more transparent and responsible chemical supply chain management – a responsibility which we do not only have towards our customers, but also towards our valuable business partners in our sourcing countries.
We’re looking forward to taking the next steps together.”

- Rabi Arif, Director Global Sourcing
