The ZDHC MRSL Council and ZDHC have now begun the ZDHC MRSL update to V4.0, an important decision is to be made upon whether to put the V3.1 Candidate List substances into the main list in V4.0.
The substances listed are :
- Bisphenol AF (CAS no 1478-61-1), Bisphenol F (CAS no 620-92-8), Bisphenol S (CAS no 80-09-1
- Polyethoxylated tallow amine (CAS no 61791-26-2)
- Formaldehyde (CAS no 50-00-0)
(It is intended to introduce a maximum allowable limit of 250 mg/kg for the majority of formulations, except for non-iron and easy-to-iron finish formulations or reactive organic/resin tanning agents, where it is intended to introduce a limit of 1000 mg/kg in conformance with hazard labelling obligations.)
- Phenol (CAS no 108-95-2)
- Potassium permanganate (CAS no 7722-64-7)
- Solvents - 2-Methoxypropanol (CAS no 1589-47-5), used in leather formulations and methanol (CAS no 67-56-1)
(We are aware that methanol is used in the chemical recycling of polyester waste other than in textile chemical formulations).
We seek information from the industry on these substances for:
- Availability of safer alternatives or processes
- Scalability: whether these alternatives are available on a global scale
- Any other technical inputs about these substances such as suggested limit values, test methods or regulatory information.
If you have any inputs please complete the form on the ZDHC Submission Platform or contact Pushkar Shejwalkar at shejwalkar@zdhc.org.
