ZDHC Joins Forces With Five New Organisations Committed as ZDHC Contributors

10/18/2017

Today, five organisations joined the ZDHC Foundation, a coalition of over 70 contributors, working together on the implementation of safer chemistry practices to protect consumers, workers and the environment.

By joining ZDHC, these organisations will be supporting ZDHC’s goal of widespread implementation of sustainable chemistry in the textile, leather and footwear industries. One of the main objectives of ZDHC is to reduce duplication and confusion of standards within the value chain, and as ZDHC Executive Director Frank Michel notes, collaboration is key to achieving this:

"The ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme represents a wide range of organisations and interests, but we have all joined forces because we believe so strongly in the need of a unified chemical management system to support the global textile, footwear and value chains. I am very pleased to welcome the five new organisations to ZDHC and to this worthwhile cause."

Joining ZDHC, these organisations commit to working collaboratively on the development and implementation of ZDHC tools. These include amongst others a  Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL), Wastewater Guidelines and two platforms: the ZDHC Academy and the ZDHC Gateway - Chemical Module and Wastewater Module.

All five organisations join the value chain affiliate category:

  • Centre Testing International (CTI), is an approved third-party lab that mainly provides RSL & environmental testing services to the footwear and textile manufacturing industry.
  • KINGDOM, was founded in 1999 and is today one of the world’s largest manufacturers of 100% linen yarn. The linen yarn brand “KINGDOM” has a well established reputation all over the world.
  • RES, was founded in 1959 and works on the lamination of textile fabrics and bonding. Also, they’re modifying material performances through nanotechnology in their own research centre. Next to fashion and sportswear they also work in the automotive and protective gear sector.
  • Sun Wan(台灣三旺), Sun Wan only sells 100%  bluesign approved products, including disperse, acid, reactive and cationic dyes, and auxiliaries suitable for different functions on various textiles dyeing and printing.
  • Taiwan Surfactant Corp. is the largest surfactant manufacturer in Taiwan. With more than 40 years of experience in the textile industry, their product portfolio includes chemicals for other sectors including electronic engineering, agriculture, and water-treatment.

ZDHC was founded in 2011 by six leading brands and today consists of 75 contributor, divided into three categories - 23 Signatory Brands, 38 Value Chain Affiliates and 14 Associates.
