New Board Member!

The ZDHC Foundation proudly welcomes Professor Kate Goldsworthy, Chair of Circular Design and Innovation at the University of the Arts London (UAL), to its Board of Directors. As a newly appointed academic representative, Professor Goldsworthy brings unparalleled expertise in sustainable textile innovation, circular economy strategies, and interdisciplinary research—all critical pillars of ZDHC’s mission to eliminate hazardous chemicals from global supply chains and advance sustainable chemistry.

Professor Kate Goldsworthy

A Visionary Leader in Circular Design and Sustainable Innovation

Professor Goldsworthy’s career spans over two decades at the intersection of design, materials science, and environmental stewardship. As Director of the UAL Innovation Lab and Professor of Circular Design and Innovation, she has pioneered methodologies to align textile production with circular economy principles. She focuses on designing materials with sustainability and recyclability ‘built in’ and engaging with science, technology, and industry partners at every stage. Her research focuses on reducing chemical and fibre waste through innovations such as laser-finishing technologies for recyclable synthetics, fibre-to-fibre recovery systems, and collaborative frameworks for lifecycle design.

Her leadership in high-impact initiatives demonstrates a commitment to scalable, science-driven solutions for the textile industry.

Alignment with ZDHC’s Mission and Vision

ZDHC’s vision of “widespread implementation of sustainable chemistry” finds a natural advocate in Professor Goldsworthy. Her advocacy for standardised environmental data, material transparency, and systemic supply chain reforms aligns with ZDHC’s tools such as the Gateway.

Kate’s work at the intersection of design, science, and technology has been instrumental in advancing closed-loop systems and regenerative practices—principles that strongly resonate with ZDHC’s mission to eliminate hazardous chemicals from global supply chains.” -  Frank Michel, ZDHC’s CEO
