ZDHC South Asia Region successfully conducted the stakeholder event in Dhaka, Bangladesh on 15th May 2024 at Le Meridien, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

ZDHC South Asia Region successfully conducted the stakeholder event in Dhaka, Bangladesh on 15th May 2024 at Le Meridien, Dhaka, Bangladesh. We had an overwhelming response of 350 delegate participations that made the theme of the event “Building a culture of sustainable chemical management in the fashion industry” a reality! 

The inaugural session had Mr. Md. Amanur Rahman, President of BCDMEA and Engr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman from HAMS group.

Saket Kulkarni from ZDHC gave an overview of the elements of ZDHC Guidelines (MRSL, CMS TIG WWG), and Prasad Pant, also from ZDHC, discussed how to build the culture of sustainable chemical management in the textile and leather industry through the ZDHC RtZ programme.

AKM Foysal from H&M, Himadri Shekhar Sarker from M&S, and Yead Arefin from JC Penney participated in the panel discussion on “How can Brands build a culture of sustainable chemical management in their supply chain?”, moderated by Prasad Pant. Shivam Saraf from Apna Organics, Md. Amanur Rahman from Dysin, Ritesh Shinde from Jay Chemicals, and Karthikeyan KS from Proklean shared their views on how formulators build the sustainable chemistry innovations in chemical manufacturing. Mr Arindam Choudhuri from Fineotex, shared multiple examples of how to make textile processing more sustainable.

Lydia Lin and Mariella Noto from ZDHC shared how the region's team supports in implementing the ZDHC RtZ programme and the role of ZDHC Academy in building CMS, respectively.

Imtiaz Udddin Topu from HAMS, Md. Omar Faruq from GIZ and Md. Al Tauhidul Islam from Envoy, shared their best chemical management practices in terms of storage and handling of chemicals, resource efficiency, and replacement of hazardous chemicals with safer alternatives. Md. Wakil Hossain from Tuv-Rheinland shared an overview of the impacts of upcoming legislation for the textile and apparel industry.

The event ended with a lively panel discussion moderated by Prasad Pant, with Johny Yasmin Kanta from Hohenstein, Raffaella Santoro from TUV SUD, and Shameem Hossain from UL on “How can solution providers strengthen the culture of SCM in the textile and leather value chain?”
