In December 2024, BluWin conducted various activities in Ethiopia as part of the Southern Africa Textile and Garment Circular Economy Project that ZDHC is working on in collaboration with UNIDO.
First, a Train-of-Trainer (ToT) session took place for a selected group of local experts with the aim of scaling local knowledge and expertise on sustainable chemical management. Instead of a classroom training, the ToT was highly interactive, focusing on role-playing, reflection on case studies and presenting the appropriate solutions, presentation skills, and more. Additional training and support will be offered to the local task force in 2025, but this ToT was a first step towards scaling local capacity.
In addition to the ToT, on-site factory visits were conducted in Ethiopia as well where BluWin, in collaboration with the Ethiopian national executing entity (TGiRDc), provided guidance on developing a chemical inventory list (CIL), assessing chemical management practices, and ensuring compliance with the ZDHC MRSL. These on-site factory visits are a key component of the overall regional project and were already done in South Africa in August 2024 and will take place in Lesotho and Madagascar in 2025.
