Announcing the ZDHC Gateway - Chemical Module - A New Online Portal to Drive Conformance Towards the ZDHC MRSL

In 2015, the ZDHC Programme released its Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) Version 1.1, listing chemical substances banned from intentional use in facilities that process textile materials and trim parts in apparel and footwear, including leather.

Later this year, ZDHC will deliver a new online portal - the ZDHC Gateway - Chemical Module -  as the next step in its path towards eliminating key chemicals in the global textile and footwear value chain.

The Gateway will include a comprehensive list of chemical products and an MRSL conformance assessment for each. It will map products against existing chemical accreditation such as GOTS or OEKO-Tex STeP, and provide textile manufacturers with documentation to determine the level that a chemical product conforms with the ZDHC MRSL.

“We’re excited to be announcing the development of an open, flexible data portal to assist brands, suppliers and chemical companies assess a chemical’s compliance against the MRSL,” says ZDHC Executive Director, Frank Michel.

“Without this type of portal, each textile manufacturer would need to assess every product from each of their chemical suppliers against the ZDHC MRSL to ensure conformance,” says Michel.

“Our goal is to provide a simple, easy, inexpensive way to provide this information to all stakeholders.”

The ZDHC Programme will be working with chemical companies around the world to include their product lists in the ZDHC Gateway. In turn, the platform will pave the way for textile manufacturers to get clear MRSL conformance information on the chemical products they’re purchasing.

The ZDHC Gateway - Chemical Module draws from experience learned during an extensive pilot conducted in 2015 across China, Pakistan, Scotland and Sri Lanka on behalf of the ZDHC Foundation by ADEC Innovations.
